Your packages won’t save the Postal Service

The Atlantic has published my article n the U.S. Postal Servcies and its struggle to survivie in the digital age. The antire agency was built to carrry paper mail, and it was to be self-funding by virture of having a monopoly over the delivery of mail, along with some other government privileges.

But, the Internet has wrecked this model — paper mail volume has plunged from a peak of 213.1 billion pieces per year in 2006 to 116.1 billion in 2023. That is a 46 percent decline. The agency is trying to reinvent itself on the fly by transforming itself into a package delivery company. But making that transition will not be easy… (Read more at the Atlantic)
